Video - Web
Ok, so now you have a video clip that you want everybody around the world to see but don't know how to get it up there...
This business with video editing is still something new (to me), so bear with me...
Before we try to get anywhere on this subject, we must already know that most Windows based PC users either use Windows Media Player, QuickTime or Real Player as the more popular multimedia (video) players.
Simply, there are 2 ways you may want to set up your video clip on your homepage or site -
Download Type
The download type is basically, like, downloading a file off the Web. Readers click on the link and DOWNLOAD the entire clip (onto their HDD) before they can actually view it on Windows Media Player (WMP) or whatever else they have set up on their PCs to view multimedia files.
This is the simplest method of offering your videos to the world. Choosing this method, you can actually produce video clips in any Video format (.avi, .mpeg, .aiff, .asf, .wmv etc.) as all players support the different formats if you configure them that way.
Now just upload the video clip to your web server and put a link to the file on one of your pages and that's it!
Streaming Media Type
The streaming type is exactly that - your viewers get to view the movie or video almost immediately while the remainder of the file is being downloaded onto a player like WMP.
This method is a bit tricky and you have to decide which player is most popularly used by your target audience and create the proper format for that particular player.
I, as usual, will target my videos for use with WMP - only because it's probably installed (by Windows default installation) in every PC by now.
That means, your video files will have to be produced (exported) as either .asf or .wmv files.
For web video streaming, I prefer to save the video file as an .asf file.
Go to Video - Streaming to see how to set up your streaming video clip for the Web.
