Bookmarking Forums

It's hard to be on the Internet and not join a single Forum or Bulletin Board these days. If you are like me, you probably visit a minimum of 3 popular Forums everyday. Naturally, this means that you also probably have them listed on your Bookmark or Favorites list.

How NOT to bookmark a Forum

If you add a Message Board or Forum to your Favorites list and use it to get to your 'favourite' Forum everyday, you probably have them listed this way:

code:
Forum |URL
----------+---------------------------------
GIDForums |http://www.desilva.biz/forum/
phpBB |http://www.phpbb.com/
vBulletin |http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/

What's wrong with bookmarking my Forums like that?

Absolutely nothing but if you're like me and cannot afford to waste your time downloading unnecessary pages only to look for new posts everytime, you can do what I do instead; saving your forums like I have, below.

code:
Forum |URL
----------+---------------------------------
GIDForums |http://www.desilva.biz/forum/search.php?action=getnew
phpBB |http://www.phpbb.com/search.php?search_id=newposts
vBulletin |http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/search.php?action=getnew

How to bookmark popular Forums

Since my favourite Message Boards either use phpBB or to run their forums, I will only list the 'search' pages for these 2.

  • vBulletin - the URL + search.php?action=getnew
  • phpBB - the URL + search.php?search_id=newposts

Now everytime you pull up your favourite forum or bulletin board, you immediately get a list of new or current posts to the forum (even since your last visit, if you've opted to remain logged in)!
