TNT2 New Driver Setup I
If you thought installing a new / upgraded driver for your NVidia TNT2 graphic card was as simple as downloading the file and installing it, then you're in for a surprise!
Apparently, it is imperative that you REMOVE all files (of the previous driver) before you install the new ones...
IF you have installed or upgraded your VGA driver recently without first removing all files from a previous install, this may be one of the symptoms that you should look for:
Here's how to correctly remove and install a new/upgraded driver on your PC:
REMOVE OLD NVIDIA DRIVER
- On your Desktop, right-click an empty area and choose Properties.
- Choose Settings tab and click on the Advanced button.
- Select the Adapter tab and click on the Change button.
- In the Update Device Driver Wizard select the Specify... option and then the Display... option of the next page.
- On the next window, select Show all hardware. option.
- Under Manufacturers, select the Standard display types after scrolling to the top of the list.
- From the window on the right Models, select then Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA).
- Finally, follow the prompts and reboot.
- Still, you have to now remove all traces of any leftover files from the old driver. Click Start, Search, For Files or Folders...
- On C:\ drive, search for files: nv*.*
- Remove (delete) any files that are found (from step 10) in
path: C:\Windows\INF
or
path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM
or
path: C:\Windows\HELP - Close the Search Results ("Find" in Win98) window now.
- Next click Start, Run and type in regedit and click OK to open your Registry Editor. Fiddling with your System Registry in Registry Editor is definitely something you should avoid doing unless you're comfortable you know what you're doing.
- In your Registry Editor, expand the tree to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation.
- Still on the left pane, RIGHT-click on NVIDIA Corporation and click Delete and confirm the deletion.
- Exit Registry Editor now and press F5 to refresh your registry.
You have to allow Hidden File view to find ALL the files.
