Macromedia's Dreamweaver

3 days ago, I got a copy of Macromedia's Dreamweaver 4 and installed it on my PC. I always knew only of it's existence but nothing more...

Besides, I had learnt enough about MS FrontPage 2000 to create and maintain well, these pages here - so nothing, I thought, could make me change my mind.

Since April 2001 when this website was completely overhauled and people ACTUALLY started reading my articles, many wrote in to say mainly 2 things; that:

  • My pages stink when viewed in Netscape - tell me something I DON'T know.
  • and that MS FrontPage 2000 is a lame html editor!

Now that I have gone through Dreamweaver's tutorial (included in the installation of the program), I must admit I feel pretty excited about the program.

Which brings me to this conclusion - Microsoft makes some pretty mediocre (but very successful) programs that appeal to the masses.

Slowly but surely; and as soon as you learn a little bit more than the regular user, the trend is to move away from anything Microsoft!

Updated: May 03rd, 2002

Since I have been using Dreamweaver now for more than 9 months, I cannot see myself going back to using MS FrontPage 2002. I would even settle for some others listed on my article on Authoring Programs before using MS FrontPage 2002 if I was starved for choice.

I like that Dreamweaver has FTP support so I save on the need for a separate FTP program.

Also, don't you hate it that you have to empty a folder on your web server before you can remove it? When you use a regular FTP program. Well, with Dreamweaver, all you have to do is select the folder on your web server and hit Del and everything - folder and files, are deleted. Simple!

My last comment is - why do I really LOVE Dreamweaver? It's easily modified when you know how!
